CQ WW SSB Contest 2024 - A Challenging Weekend in the QRP Class

Published on 29 October 2024 at 23:11

Another CQ World Wide SSB Contest is complete! After an intense weekend at the radio, I can look back on a couple of days filled with challenges, endurance, and excitement. The goal was clear: 100 QSOs in the QRP class – a target that demanded patience, technique, and plenty of persistence!

A Battle in the QRP Class

Participating in the QRP class (maximum 5 watts) is always a unique experience. In this category, you really have to fight to be heard among the many stations operating at much higher power levels. It requires fine-tuning of the antenna, favorable propagation conditions, and a sharp ear to pick up openings in the bands.

There were times when every single QSO felt like pulling a needle out of a haystack. But as always, it's deeply satisfying to make it through, especially when you sense the other operator's excitement at reaching a QRP station! My equipment really held its own, and I’m grateful for all the stations that, despite the noise and congestion, took the time to complete a contact.

Goal Achieved: 100 QSOs!

After many hours of focused listening and transmitting, I managed to hit my target of 100 QSOs! It’s always rewarding to set a goal and then reach it. I made contacts with both familiar stations and new ones, near and far. The variety in signal strengths and band conditions kept things interesting and reminded me of why I love this hobby.

Awaiting the Results in Denmark

Now comes the exciting part: waiting for the official results. With a good number of Danish operators also participating in the QRP class, it will be interesting to see how I place compared to my fellow countrymen. Regardless of the final ranking, I'm pleased and proud to have met my personal goal.

Thanks for a Great Contest

Thanks to all the stations that replied, and to the organizers for another successful CQ WW SSB Contest. I’m already looking forward to next year and hopefully improving my results. The QRP class is always a challenge, but it also brings out the best in us – exactly what contesting is all about!
